Knole U3A is an educational charity that promotes life-long learning for the benefit of those who are no longer in full-time paid employment in the Sevenoaks area.
Knole is part of a network which, has more than 1,000 local U3A groups up and down the country, with a nationwide membership of over 400,000 and is continuing to grow every day.
The name Knole was chosen to reflect the connection with Sevenoaks through the local landmark Knole House, owned by the National Trust. The house, dating from the 15th century, is one of the largest private houses in England.
Knole is a very friendly U3A that has grown rapidly since its inception in 2009. For our size we offer a comprehensive range of subject and activity groups. We also share a number of groups with Sevenoaks,Edenbridge and Westerham U3As. In the main, these are either specialist topic groups or groups where there is no space restriction. As well as the group activities, we hold monthly meetings for all members with distinguished outside speakers. We have an active social programme, as the opportunity to meet and enjoy the company of people who wish to remain active in retirement is a key aim of the organisation.
Knole U3A holds an Open Afternoon each September, where the study and activity groups recruit, and this provides a good start for the next year. Knole now has a membership of 446 with some 75 interest groups established. These cover a wide range of interests, and details are given in the on this website and in the members Handbook. For potential new members, our Newsletters give a very good feel of the range of activities underway.
