The current Coronavirus regulations permit organised walking groups to allow up to 30 members to participate together on a walk Ė providing they follow strict Covid 19 Protocols for such groups, and undertake the risk assessments recommended by the Ramblers Association. Having fully complied with these regulations the Day Walking Groupís Septemberís meeting totalled some 17 members Ė well above the number that normally participate.
The 8-mile walk ably lead by the Groupís Leader, Janet Willcox (and without a map!), had an excellent brisk stroll around the woods, fields, and lanes of the High Elms Country Park. The signs of autumn were beginning to appear everywhere with some rather spectacular fungi, tinges of brown and orange in the leaves of the tree, and the attractive seed heads of many a wild flower.
Their next walk will cover the more open landscape of the River Medway and its flood plain east of Tonbridge. If the walkers are lucky they might spot a good range of birds feasting on the fallen fruit in the orchards that the walk will pass through.
