London Studies

 London Studies 1

We are a friendly group of 28 who share a common interest in extending our knowledge of London, its people and history. We plan 9 visits a year and hold a planning meeting in August to discuss our itinerary for the coming year. Our visits this year have included exploring the City from Brixton to Bethnal Green, Westminster to Victoria, Old Newgate Prison and the route of the hidden Westbourne river. All visits conclude with a well-earned lunch.

Pat Jones      Meetings: last Wednesday, all day

London Studies 2

We normally meet at about 10.15 at Charing Cross or London Bridge for onward travel by bus.  We visit London 11 times a year and in January we hold a planning meeting where pairs of members choose a month and venue and organise our outings.  Highlights since the last handbook have included the Fishmongers Hall, the Cabinet War Rooms and Charterhouse. No outing is complete without a pub lunch.      Amanda Birch:      Meetings: 2nd Wednesday

London Studies 3

One or two members organize the monthly visit choosing the venue, planning the itinerary including sustenance breaks as well as providing background information and references. Where possible and appropriate we include a guided tour.  We have a lunch meeting in July where we plan the next year’s programme. We are never short of ideas and have lots of fun exploring and learning about the many delights London has to offer. This year’s visits have included, amongst other varied, delightful and informative visits, the Royal Opera House at Convent Garden and Thurrock, St Johns Museum, the Great Fire Exhibition as well as the King’s Cross development. We are a mixed group and the number of members has crept up to 28.   Val Wilson      Meetings: 3rd Friday

London Studies 4

We have formed a fourth lively group with visits each month, usually starting from a London mainline station. We meet annually to exchange ideas and plan an agenda for the year. Each outing is organised by one or two members who carry out the planning, booking, emails, tour etc. Inevitably they are already enthusiastic about their chosen venue, which we all benefit from! What we also share in this friendly group is an enthusiasm to investigate the countless fascinating and diverse destinations London offers.
Deb Stower:    Meetings: 4th Thursday

London Studies 5

We are a friendly group now in our 4th year. We meet in London and sometimes have a guided tour. Our outings usually end with an enjoyable lunch nearby. A planning meeting is held in December where members decide where we will go and who will arrange the visit.   Recent trips have included Whitechapel Bell Foundry, Royal Geographical Society and Eltham Palace.

Delma Moore        Meetings: 4th Thursday of the month

London Studies 6

We are a very friendly group and have had many interesting trips which included the Houses of Parliament and the BBC etc. We often travel together from Otford Station with some from Sevenoaks Station or meet at the venue. We always enjoy lunch after our visit and those who want to stay on in London do so. We are looking for a couple more members so do come and join us and have some fun.
Lynn Tier:  Meetings: Last Tuesday in the month, all day

London Studies 7

We have just celebrated our first anniversary and are now an established group of 14. During the year we have enjoyed some interesting visits including those to the Old Bailey and the Houses of Parliament.  Later in the year we will be visiting the Tower RNLI and Museum of Freemasonry. We have one or two vacancies for new members if anyone would like to join us.   Margaret Seymour:   Meetings: 1st Tuesday in the month, all day
